New players often themselves struggling to find the best way to level in WoW. There is a lot to take in when you first start, and you often hear contradictory information about leveling as a new player. I'll try to make things a little clearer for you, and hopefully you will know the leveling style most suited to your situation.
In WoW, there are three basic ways to level. Grinding, Instancing, and Questing. Each has its benefits, and its downsides.
First, Grinding. Grinding refers to chain killing enemies, earning all experience from kills. Fans of grinding argue that it is more efficient than Instancing and Questing because it can be done at any place, any time, and with no time wasted running around or finding a party. This is, however, wrong for the most part. The only way a Grinding player will level as fast as a Instancing or Questing player is by playing a AoE (Area of Effect) class that can kill large numbers enemies at a time. The only classes really suited to this playstyle are Prot Pallies and Frost Mages-and even they only barely compete with the alternatives. In Conclusion, Grinding is far from the best way to level in WoW-it is in fact the slowest, worst way to level.
The second method available is Instancing. Instancing refers to running dungeons with other players, either as a 5 man party of appropriately leveled players, or with a single high level partner killing everything. The latter is likely the best, fastest EXP/HR in the game, but finding a high-level player willing to commit hours and hours to leveling you is unlikely. The other option, working with a party, is probably the second fastest leveling in the game, but is not a good choice due to the fact that it requires the consistent cooperation of 4 other players. Getting 4 people of the appropriate level together in the first place can be difficult, and keeping them working for longer than a single instance is almost impossible. So while the occasional instance can be a nice little experience boost, it is not a method you should rely on, and thus is not the best way to level in WoW.
The final method is Questing. Questing refers to running around, doing quests for NPCs in order to be rewarded with EXP and items. Questing is almost always the best leveling method in WoW, but it can be difficult to find appropriate quests and complete them smoothly for a new player. It is almost always to your benefit to use one of the numerous leveling guides on the internet. There are some available for free, but they are often out-of-date and of lower quality all around. Your best bet is purchasing a reputable guide, like the iDemise guides, Brian Kopp's, or Joana's. These guides will provide you with step-by-step instuctions on where to go and what to do, allowing for the fast quest completion and thus, fast leveling.
I hope you found this article helpful. If you are looking for a good Questing guide now, I recommend checking out my review of various leveling guides. Good luck!
